A bank built to be understood.
Halden exists because the cost of banking is too often hidden until after it happens. We set out to build the opposite.
Why Halden exists
Most banking problems are not really about money — they are about surprise. A fee you did not expect, a hold you were not told about, a rate that quietly changed. Halden was founded on a single rule: state the cost before it happens, not after. Every fee sits on one page, every rate carries the date it took effect, and a person answers the phone.
The bank, plainly
Deposit and lending products are provided by Halden Bank, N.A., a national bank and Member FDIC. Deposits are insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation up to $250,000 per depositor, per ownership category. Our primary regulator is the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency.

How we make money
We would rather tell you than have you wonder. Halden earns from the difference between deposit and lending rates, interchange on card payments, and a small number of clearly stated service fees (outgoing wires, expedited card shipping). We do not earn from overdraft penalties, monthly maintenance fees, or minimum-balance traps — because we do not charge them.
Leadership
Halden is run by a team drawn from consumer banking, payments and consumer protection. Detailed leadership biographies are published here as the bank grows. For press and media enquiries, see our contact page.
